More Than a Before and After: Chelsea’s Story of Functional Weight Loss

When Chelsea first came to see me, she was stuck.


She’d already been through a long, exhausting journey with her weight. Since childhood, she had struggled. At her heaviest, she was 163kg. Her mood was low, her energy was unpredictable and ongoing health issues kept dragging her down.


She’d had lap-band surgery. She’d tried weight loss injections. She’d lost some weight, but she couldn’t get below 120kg. And like many women I work with, Chelsea felt like she’d tried everything. But no one had taken the time to connect the dots.


That’s where functional nutrition comes in.


Looking Beyond the Surface

Chelsea didn’t need more restriction or another “don’t eat this” list. What she needed was a strategy that worked with her body, not against it.

What made the difference? We stopped guessing. We ordered the right tests, timed them properly, and interpreted them functionally - looking for what was sub-optimal, not just clinically abnormal. Because functional testing helps us catch the body’s whispers, not just its screams.


And what we saw was clear:

  • Insulin creeping up

  • Inflammation still lingering

  • Iron dipping below optimal

  • Cortisol patterns that explained her 3pm crashes and sugar cravings


It gave us a story and from that, we built a strategy.


What Happened Next

Chelsea didn’t just lose weight. She gained confidence. Control. Clarity. Today, she’s 88kg - almost half her body weight gone. She’s preparing for skin removal surgery - something she once thought was impossible.
